Tampa Chapter Gears Up for 2020 Clays for a Cure

On October 23, 2020, the FEI Tampa Bay Chapter will host its fifth annual Clays for a Cure charity sporting clays event. We are excited to bring members, sponsor and friends together to network after a long hiatus of in-person events.  As we begin planning the event, we wanted to share a bit of the history and talk about what’s to come.

FEI Tampa Bay Philanthropy Committee
The Clays for a Cure event was born under our chapter’s Philanthropy Committee, currently led by past president and board member Brian Adamski. At its inception, our philanthropy committee focused its efforts solely on scholarships. However, over the years, the committee saw an opportunity to bring members into the fold of charitable giving.

Initially, the chapter’s annual charity event took the form of a golf tournament to support organizations like The First Tee Tampa Bay. In 2015, the chapter hosted its first Clays for a Cure charity sporting clays event. The philanthropy committee saw this as an opportunity to do something different. Unlike golf, where teams spend a day on the course by themselves, the sporting clay course allows greater interaction between teams and a chance to network with old and new friends.

Since 2015, the event has grown bigger each year. With beneficiaries including Junior Achievement, First Tee and Moffitt Cancer Center through a partnership with Bay Area Advisors.

What to Expect This Year
This year’s event will once again partner with Bay Area Advisors to support Moffitt Cancer Center.  If you don’t already know, Bay Area Advisor’s claim to fame is the annual “Martini’s for Moffitt” gala.

As always, attendees can expect a day outdoors networking, shooting, and enjoying Florida’s fall weather. Whether you are an experienced marksman, or new to the sport, the event proves to be an excellent opportunity to have some fun with fellow finance professionals.

This year, the Philanthropy Committee plans to add a cornhole tournament to the event, with prizes from sponsors and local vendors. A catered lunch will also be provided under the canopy of Tampa Bay Sporting Clay’s pavilion. Attendees will also receive a commemorative team photo following the event. Many past participants have said these photos are the biggest conversations starter they have in their office.

All are welcome to join in the fun, whether you participate in the tournament or come for the food and fellowship. We limit the number of participants to 125 and the last couple years have sold out.  So, don’t forget to register once the forms go out in the fall.

Station Sponsorship Opportunities
Station sponsorships will also be available this year, and serve as a great opportunity to connect with local finance executives in an informal setting. For the same donation, a company can invest as little or as much time and resources as they wish. Some sponsors choose to simply place a banner or sign at one of the shooting stations while others have hosted giveaways, offered snacks and refreshments and used the opportunity to interact with participants.

Sponsorships will be open to current FEI sponsors first and then to local businesses, if openings remain. FEI Tampa Bay sponsor Foundry Commercial has sponsored the event year-after-year, and looks forward to connecting with FEI members in a laidback setting.

“This event is a great opportunity to develop a more personal relationship outside of the business setting,” said Tim Kilkelly of Foundry Commercial. “It is our favorite event to sponsor every year. We truly look forward to it.”
