Tell us a little bit about your career, educational/professional background and how you got to where you are today.

I started my career in financial audit at one of the big accounting firms. I spent 12 years there in various roles and offices including Tampa, Cleveland, and McLean, VA. From there, I spent several years as a consultant, several years in FP&A, and then moved onto enterprise risk management (ERM) and internal audit roles at WellCare. Since WellCare’s 2020 acquisition by Centene, I have focused on ERM and sustainability.

What is your most rewarding accomplishment as a finance executive?

Everyone has annual goals they need to achieve to be successful in their role. As I have transitioned to the latter phase of my career, I find the most rewarding part of my job is seeing those I have managed and coached become successful.

How did you discover your passion for finance?

I chose finance as a second major in college to get enough credits to sit for the CPA exam. It seemed like a logical fit with accounting. I really enjoyed those finance courses and I remain interested in topics like capital markets, personal finance, and investing to this day.

What job would you pursue if you weren’t in finance?

Maybe I’d be a winemaker! I know enough to understand that despite how wonderful it may seem, making wine is mostly about farming and hard work. I’d like to skip the physical labor stuff and focus on the scenery and tasting!

What are some of your personal hobbies outside of finance?

My latest thing is disc golf. It is a great way to get outside, get exercise, and spend time with friends. Plus, I find it a lot less frustrating than the other kind of golf!
