April Meeting on Sustainability

April 22 is Earth Day and Earth Day is an annual celebration that honors the achievements of the environmental movement and raises awareness of the need to protect Earths natural resources for future generations. Celebrating Earth Day dates back to 1970! So, we wanted to honor Earth Day early with this month's FEI program.

There are great things happening in Dane County! Did you know… we have the first net-zero energy school in the US, the largest geothermal campus in the US, the most rooftop solar in WI, the most EV registrations in WI, and over 100 climate champions!

It is wonderful to see youth, like these, taking a strong interest in the environment and our carbon footprint. Girl Scout Troops 1477 and 1952, along with their leader, Julia Pooler, educated us on building materials and embodied carbon especailly in concrete materials.

From there, we welcomed Ben Austin, Sustainability Lead at Findorff to expand on what we've learned from the girl scouts. He briefly walked us through a financial evaluation and ROI calculation and touched on SEC disclosure requirements and how that may impact attendees.

Ben and Julia are co-leaders for the Carbon Leadership Forum Hub in Wisconsin which has a mission of bringing together building owners, contractors, architects and others together with a focus on carbon leadership.
