Basic Purpose
100% FTE position that provides chief direction and oversight of the University’s accounting activities, vouches for accounting system integrity and ensures external compliance. This position is responsible for accounting, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, audits, treasury, purchasing, accounts payable, student accounts and student payroll.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Financial Service Oversight: § Responsible for financial information at Thomas More University§ Responsible for maintenance of the general ledger and accounting systems including preparation of reports — bursar tables, G/L tables, permission files, SUBT tables, etc. § Provide general accounting assistance to other offices of the University § Support the Vice President for Finance in planning and enacting financial strategy § Coordinate all computerized financial operations § Prepare monthly and annual financial statements, associated variance analyses and dashboard reports § Coordinate preparation of annual operating and capital budgets § Responsible for the annual audit of the University and preparation of University external financial statements § Responsible for all tax returns and reports, e.g., 990, 941, W2, 1099, 1098T § Responsible for various government reports and surveys—Nursing, IPEDS, etc.
Supervision and leadership: § Directly supervise direct reports and functionally direct activities of the Bursar and Controller’s Office staff § Review all accounts reconciled by staff
Treasury: § Monitor and forecast cash balances and needs § Oversee banking activities and credit card merchant accounts § Prepare all direct bank transfers—debt payments, return of funds, etc.
Investments & donations: § Investments—record monthly activity and liaison with Investment Manager § Record stock transactions § Prepare annual endowment reporting and assist Institutional Advancement with reporting to donors § Responsible for the financial reports of restricted gifts and grants
Other duties: § Respond to special financial information requests § Preparation of goals & assessments reports § Work with financial aid in reconciling single audit reporting & Title IV funds § Other duties as assigned |
Education, Specialized and/or Technical Knowledge Requirements
Bachelor degree in accounting or business administration, related Master’s preferred
