Philip Varley is CEO of The Barrington Group Inc, providing Interim CEO, CFO and Board services to private companies. He has more than 30 years of experience in helping companies maximize their profitability, through the application of proven financial and operational strategies. Many of his clients have been Private Equity Groups’ mature portfolio companies, for which he has enhanced their profitability and sold.

In the twelve years prior to founding The Barrington Group, he was CFO of two VC start-ups, raising $50 million of equity, Division Finance Director for a Fortune 100 company, and International Controller for a NASDQ technology company. In that role, he utilized his knowledge of international tax to perform a financial restructuring which liberated $4 million of previously unusable losses, and win a transfer pricing case at Competent Authority worth another $3 million. In 2013, he served as CFO of NASDAQ traded QBAK, helping it navigate a proxy battle while in the midst of both a business turn-around and year end 10-K reporting.

His financial foundations were obtained in the Big 4, in the UK as a Charted Accountant and Audit Senior, and in the US as a CPA and Audit Manager. He holds an MBA from the University of Denver, and a BSc in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College, London, where today he serves on the Strategic Advisory Board. In 2012, he was honored to hold the title of Monfort Visiting Executive Professor at the University of Northern Colorado.
