Tom Spoerel joined Becton, Dickinson & Co. (BD) in 2015 and serves as Controller & Chief Accounting Officer. His primary focus at BD is to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting of BD’s financial statements. In pursuit of this core Finance mission, he oversees global accounting policy and financial reporting; a dedicated set of revenue accountants and the accounting operations of its North American Shared Service Center. He is the primary liaison to Ernst & Young, the company’s external auditor, and presents at each Audit Committee meeting of the Board.
Mr. Spoerel began his career in public accounting and after spending 9 years with Ernst & Young, he joined a global manufacturing company in 2009 and, as Controller, guided the company through an IPO in 2014.
Mr. Spoerel holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Fordham University and an MBA from Columbia University. He enjoys golf in the warmer months and skiing in the winter.
He resides in Maplewood, NJ with his wife of 13 years and three children.
