Timothy Ryan

Tim Ryan is a principal in the Fraud Investigation & Dispute Services practice of Ernst & Young LLP. He is the U.S. Cyber Investigations practice leader. This group assists clients in responding to, investigating and remediating cyber and security incidents, as well as investigating and solving cybercrime. He also serves on the SANS GIAC Advisory Board providing insight, experience, and advice concerning cybersecurity training and certifications. 

 

Prior to joining the firm, Ryan led the Cybersecurity and Investigations practice of an international risk consultancy which was awarded the National Cybersecurity Practice of the Year, by a well-regarded legal journal. He has responded to some of the most high-profile global cyber breaches of prominent corporations.

 

Ryan also had a distinguished career as a Supervisory Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), where he supervised the largest Cyber Squad in the United States. 

 

He has significant experience in responding to all forms of computer crimes, attacks and abuses. Ryan has led complex cyber investigations involving corporate espionage, advanced computer intrusions, denial of service, insider attacks, malware outbreaks, internet fraud and theft of trade secrets.

 

Ryan also served as Acting Director of the FBI’s New Jersey Regional Computer Forensics Lab, one of the nation’s largest, state-of-the-art digital forensic laboratories. As a member of the FBI’s elite Computer Analysis and Response Team, he conducted computer forensic examinations on behalf of federal, state and local authorities.
