Laura Hinson

Laura Hinson has over 17 years of public accounting experience. She is part of Deloitte Tax’s Washington National Tax Estate, Gift, Trust and Charitable Group.  In her role, she serves as technical subject matter expert on national engagements, assisting ultra-high net worth families design strategies to achieve their personal, wealth transfer, and charitable objectives.  She has specific expertise in pre-mortem estate tax reviews, audit readiness assessments, post-mortem planning, estate administration, estate tax financing, and fiduciary income taxation. She also consults on individual income tax matters including the impact of tax reform, net operating losses, casualty losses, and passive activity losses. 

She leads the national gift tax designated reviewer apprenticeship program. She has a passion for teaching and has developed and facilitated estate, gift, trust, and individual income tax courses for all levels of Deloitte Tax.

She is a contributor to Peebles and Janes, 822-3rd T.M., Estate, Gift and Generation-Skipping Tax Returns and has authored the following articles: “Potential Pitfalls of Charitable Contribution Substantiation and Reporting.” The Tax Adviser March 2019; “Charitable Income Tax Deductions for Trusts and Estates.” The Tax Adviser March 2021; and “10 Common Form 709 Mistakes.” The Tax Adviser, March 2022.
